Research
Welcome to Dr. Yosef Fichman lab! We are a new research lab at the School of Plant Sciences and Food Security, George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences, at Tel Aviv University. We focus on plant stress signaling and acclimation. Our mission is to unlock the molecular mechanisms that allow plants to rapidly respond to different stresses and survive.
We use state-of-the-art technology and innovative methods to conduct our research, which has the potential to impact the world's food supply and improve crop yields. Check out our publications to learn more about our groundbreaking discoveries.
Climate change presents a great challenge to plant health and agricultural sustainability. To navigate this crisis, we must delve into the intricate mechanisms of plant stress responses, specifically how early signaling orchestrates systemic acclimation – the organism-wide adaptation to stress before damage occurs.
We investigate the role of redox, the dynamic interplay between oxidation and reduction, as a key conductor of this vital process. Redox signaling plays a pivotal role in the initial stages of stress response, utilizing reactive oxygen species (ROS) as potent, long-distance messengers. Initially perceived as solely detrimental, ROS act as controlled bursts within the plant's vast cellular network, triggering a cascade of cellular adjustments known as the ROS wave.
